The tourism industry is a major industry in Thailand. The industry is promoted using the slogans“Amazing Thailand” and“Discover Thailand”. Foreigners in Thailand pick Bangkok as their go-to destination for its historical, natural, and cultural sites in its surroundings. The capital, Bangkok, also has beaches, islands, trekking destinations, minority ethnic groups, and forested mountains all of which combine to act as a magnet for tourists. Thailand is also known to have what is considered by many to be the largest market in the world, the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Foreigners in the country also enjoy taking courses ranging from Thai cooking to Buddhism and Thai massage. This has only been made possible by the influx of tourists in the country. It is expected that the outstanding performance of the tourism industry will continue for years to come.
Foreigners visiting Thailand with back-to-back visas are assumed to be doing illegal activities in Thailand and are likely to be questioned.
Citizens of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and South Korea do not require a visa to visit Thailand for stays of no more than 90 days. Citizens of Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States do not require a visa for stays up to 30 days.
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Thai Visa.
Current passport valid for a minimum of six months from intended date of arrival in Thailand.
Previous passports. If it has been stolen, an original police report should be provided.
One original application form and three photocopies.
Four passport photographs taken within six months, each should be affixed to the application forms.
An original Police clearance certificate not older than one year.
Drug clearance certificate not older than a year and issued by NDLEA.

Thailand Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
Tourist visa(TR) is issued for the purpose of sight-seeing, tourism and leisure.
The visa is valid for between 30- 60 days depending on the consul discretion.
It costs 13,000 naira for a Thailand tourist visa.
A copy of your travel return ticket paid in full is required.
Proof of sufficient finances of 20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family should be shown through a bank statement not older than 6 months.
Holder of a Thailand tourist visa must not stay beyond 60 days.
It is however possible to extend the visa but the success of the extension is dependent on the Immigration Officer attending to your application.
Receipt of the visa fee paid is required when collecting your visa. The consular section of the embassy of Thailand in Nigeria issues visas between 2-3pm on weekdays.
Ensure that your visa application form is complete as incomplete forms will lead to visa refusal.
The embassy might ask for additional documents during the processing before a visa is issued. Issuance of a visa still does not guarantee entrance into Thailand.
All the general documents are required and must be arranged in the order. Documents in languages other than English must be translated into English.
If you provided false statements or fake documents, your visa would be refused or canceled and the applicant could be prosecuted.
Employed applicants are required to present a reference letter from their employer. A copy of the company’s registration certificate, proof of how much the applicant earns and the company’s tax clearance should be attached to the letter.
Self-employed applicants should submit an introduction letter stating position, details of business owned, monthly income, purpose of visit to Thailand, duration and address of stay during visit.
For the unemployed or students, submit a reference letter from a guarantor or parent. The letter should state the relationship between both parties, the guarantor’s job, salary, contact details and financial commitment to the trip.
All documents must be original and signed by authorized persons.
Certificate issued by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Nigeria showing that the individual is not a drug addict must be presented.
Travel itinerary which contains travel programs, tour package reservation and places to be visited is required.
Minors( below 18 years) accompanied by a parent or guardian are exempted from presenting a financial statement.
Travelers are to be vaccinated for yellow fever with a certificate or yellow card as proof.
Accommodation reservation valid for the entire stay in Thailand is required.
If you will be staying in a hotel, the address and contact details of the hotel should be provided.
If you would be staying in an apartment, then you would be required to provide the name of the property owner, address of the property and the contact of the owner.
Individuals who intend to stay with a relative should include the house address, and relationship between the host and the applicant.
Overstaying your visa would result in the individual being fined. A minimum of 500 Baht is charged per day for overstaying, 20,000 Baht for a stay longer than 40 days and 20,000 Baht plus a 1-year ban for overstaying longer than 90 days.
For those that cannot afford the fine, they will be jailed until they can secure a flight to leave Thailand.
Thailand Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements
Business visa in Thailand is referred to as a Non-immigration B visa(Non-B).
Holders of this visa can conduct businesses, negotiate contracts and make investments in Thailand.
This visa is issued for single-entry(90 days) and multiple-entry(1 year). Extension of visa is done only at the discretion of the immigration officer.
Depending on the needs of the business visa applicant, different categories of visas(B, B-A and IB) can be issued.
B visa is a Business visa, B-A is a Business approved visa, and IB is the Investment and Business visa.
B visa is issued for work or business activities.
Granting of B-A visa is under the jurisdiction of the Office of Immigration in Bangkok and is usually applied for by the company the applicant intend to invest or conduct business with.
The IB visa is for foreign citizens who are employed to work on investment projects in Thailand.
Your potential employer in Thailand is expected to obtain a letter of approval from the Thai Ministry of Labor.
Before you can work in Thailand even with a visa, you have to be granted a work permit. Penalties for working without a work permit are imprisonment, fines or both.
For individuals who want to take up teaching below the University level, additional documents such as an acceptance letter from the employing institute in Thailand, a police clearance certificate, the applicant’s resume and evidence of educational qualification.
Applicants are required to submit the applications to the embassy personally. However, the applicant can entrust the picking up of the visa to someone else.
If your family members are travelling with you, they can apply for a Non-immigrant visa(category O). They will be allowed to stay for a period of 90 days to 1 year.
It is illegal to work with a tourist visa. In the case that you need to engage in business activities during your tourist trip, you have to apply for a change of visa at the Office of Immigration Bureau.
To apply for a business visa, an invitation letter is required from the company in Thailand. The letter should state the purpose of the visit, the nature of the business to be conducted, and the duration of business visit.
The invitation letter submitted must be the original copy, signed by the managing director of the company and stamped with the company’s seal.
A copy of the inviting company’s registration certificate and tax clearance should be submitted.
If you are traveling to be employed in Thailand, the following documents should be submitted:
A signed employment contract highlighting the position of the applicant, period of employment, and the offered salary.
Signatures or a copy of the passport of all parties who signs the contract.
Copy of business registration of the employer company issued by the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce of Thailand
Letter of approval from the Ministry of Labor(in case you are newly recruited) or a copy of work permit(in case you are a current employee)
After examining the authenticity of the required documents, the Embassy will invite the applicants for interview. The applicant will be informed of an appointment date and time by telephone. The interview normally takes approximately 5-10 minutes for each applicant.
The applicant is required to present the ID card and the visa application receipt on the interview date.
Failure to show up on the interview date and time without prior notice will lead to visa refusal.
Thailand Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements
Thailand issues a student visa to individuals coming to The kingdom of Thailand to study, attend conferences and training.
The visa is known as the Non-ED visa.
To apply for a student visa, the following additional documents are required:
A signed acceptance letter from the institution in Thailand. The letter must have attached a copy of the passport of the authorized person who signs it.
If you are applying to a private University, a copy of the institution’s registration certificate/ license.
Letter from your sponsor or letter of self-sponsorship.
The course syllabus.
Letter from the Ministry of Education of Thailand.
Degree certificate or transcript of previous institutions attended.
The student visa is valid for 90 days when you get it for the first time.
Before the end of the 90 days, you are to register and pay your tuition fee for the semester. With a confirmation letter about your registration, you can go ahead to apply for an extension of the visa.
You must apply for the extensions during your first week in Thailand.
Each extension is for a 90-day duration and the student can extend their visas three times, providing up to 12 months from the original date of entry.
If you traveled to Thailand with a 60-day tourist visa, and during your stay you need a non-ED visa, you can change your visa within the first 30 days of your entry without leaving the country.
Your tourist visa must be valid for at least 21 more days, in any case, otherwise, you will have to leave Thailand to apply for the visa change visa.
Applicantsare required to pay a visa fee of 26,000 naira cash. A receipt with the Embassy stamp will be issued after payment. The applicant is required to keep the receipt and present it for passport collection.
Fees are non-refundable and all submitted application documents will not be returned regardless of if the visa is granted or refused.
It is illegal to work in Thailand with your student visa.
Visa does not guarantee entry into Thailand. The Thai Immigration Bureau at entry ports have the authority to authorize or deny admission to Thailand.
Individuals travelling for a conference, seminar or training are required to submit the following documents:
A letter of invitation from the inviting organization in Thailand. The letter must be signed and sealed by an authorized person. The letter and signature must be original. Scanned copies will not be accepted.
Copy of the specimen signature of the authorized person who signs the letter, or a copy of passport of the authorized person/managing director who signs the letter.
Copy of the registration certificate of the inviting organization. If it is a private company, the certificate must be issued by the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce of Thailand.
Every 90 days you stay in Thailand, you need to notify the Immigration Bureau to tell them your current address and it is free of charge.
If you do not notify the Immigration Bureau 7 days before or 7 days after the next 90 days are complete, you will be fined 2,000 Baht and if happens more than once then you could lose your visa.
